The Taiwan New Cultural Movement which was highly energetic in 1920s, represent a significant cultural awakening event in Taiwan. Taiwan New Cultural Movement has enlightened the Taiwanese public to rediscover themselves by democratically voicing, cultural seminars, and various activities. Promoted by the civic-minded public, the simultaneously breakthroughs in Taiwanese film, drama, literature, and music unclosed a most free-spirited, modernity-enlightened era in Taiwanese history.
The impacts of Taiwan New Cultural Movement produced many Taiwanese writers and artists, particularly in the Dadaocheng area. Famous sculptor Huang Tu-Shui, and painters Kuo Hsueh-Hu, Chen Qing-fen, Chen De-Wang, Hong Rui-Lin, were all born in Dadaocheng. Since 1930s, pop songs have become very popular in Taiwan. The lyrics for “The Peach Girl”, the very first hitting pop song in Taiwan is written by Zhan Tian-Ma who was the owner of Tianma Tea House. Other well-known pop songs such as “Longing for Spring Breeze, The Torment of a Flower, and Springtime Hills, were all written by the Dadaocheng musician Teng Yu-Hsien. The Taiwan New Cultural Movement Memorial Museum, which is located on Dadaocheng, is quite an echo to the historically significant era.
The Taiwan New Cultural Movement Memorial Museum, of which predecessor is the North Taipei Police Station which was a Taipei City heritage site, is inaugurated on October 14, 2018. The mission of Taiwan New Cultural Movement Memorial Museum is to preserve and promote the historical events and the spirits of figures related to Taiwan New Cultural Movement. Taiwan New Cultural Movement Memorial Museum continues to response to the history of Taiwan New Cultural Movement from a contemporary perspective, and to pursue new knowledge and cultural identity of which the core value of the Taiwan New Cultural Movement.
